May will be a busy month for Dirtblonde in Liverpool, with gigs at the Kazimier, the Zanzibar and the Masque Theatre (a special mini festival for the bands snubbed by Liverpool Sound City 2011), besides an acoustic set at Little Red Vintage on Bold Street.
The month starts with a Chew Disco gig on 7th May – a New York / Liverpool DIY punk party, returning for its 10th edition at The Kazimier (Liverpool).
With resident and guest DJs playing classic post-punk, rockabilly, new wave, queercore, riot grrrl, obscure 80s trash, 90s alternative, electro and sundry rarities from John Peel’s attic and Tammy Fay Baker’s pill box.
Plus brand new homemade video art, b-movies, video nasties, cult cinema, feminist, GLF and Black Panther reels, vintage skin flicks and burlesque oddities!! Brand new MEDIA SWAP (trade your CDs, mix tapes, books, vids), ZINE STALL, cupcakes, a special performance by the Chew Go-Gos and mad card tricks. Warhol’s Factory meets DUMBA in a hot mess of DIY beats, free love and human rights for queers, straights, homo-radicals, misfits, feminists, and alternative thinkers. Free Chew Disco compilation and sweets to the first 100!!
Doors 8pm. £5 entry of £4 ADV/NUS.
Proceeds from Chew Disco (Vol. 10) will go to Icebreakers Uganda, an LGBT rights organisation supporting queers in Uganda – where homosexuality is currently punishable by incarceration for up to 14 years, LGBT citizens routinely face police brutality and torture during detainment, and where Ugandan MP David Bahati’s Anti-Homosexuality bill (which would make homosexual behaviour punishable by death) is gaining unprecedented support from citizens (see BBC documentary Uganda: The World’s Worst Place To Be Gay at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00yrt1c )
